Kevin’s Rule

From the awesome Jesse Itzler:

Kevin’s Rule is when you put something on your calendar every other month that you normally wouldn’t do. Can be a race, going to a museum, a camping trip with your kids, Ice camp, a cooking class, exploring a new area, ect… so at the end of the year, if you do this, you will have 6 mini adventures that you wouldn’t normally have. I have been teaching this with my Build Your Life Resume program for years now… it’s a game changer.

MEET KEVIN OF KEVIN’S RULE

This originated when I went on a winter camping trip with my friend Kevin the cop @runkevirun (pictured above) and our kids to Mount Washington. We were the only one’s there, sleeping in the snow looking at the stars and I said “Kevin this is incredible, there are 8 billion people in the world and we are the only one’s here… how often do you do things like this?”

Kevin lit up and said “ever since I graduated college, I put something like this on my calendar every other month”

Kevin and I have done a lot of Kevin’s rules trips together… Mount Washington, Ice Camp, Hell on the Hill, Ultraman, boys bike trip in AZ, ironman, etc etc.

If you are 30 and do this until you are 70 you will have added 240 experiences to your LIFE RESUME that you would not have otherwise had. That is an incredible gift.

Knowing him has made my life better, I hope everyone finds a Kevin to do Kevin’s Rules trips with…

Kevin’s Rule Notes

Goal: 6 New Experiences Each Year

  • Every other month, do one thing you normally would NOT have done
  • These are small trips, mini-adventures, or experiences that aren’t typical for you
  • Maybe it’s hiking, a polar plunge, a cooking class, or going to the museum
  • Lock in time to shake up routine, keep things fresh and create newness
  • You don’t have to decide what the new experience will be yet, just put the request offs in
  • It’s okay to say no to other things that come up
  • Big picture: do this for 30 years, we will have 180 new experiences
