Managing Ego: Finding Balance for Self-Esteem and Achievement

It takes a certain level of awareness to stop making excuses and letting our actions make or break our ego.

And we can get to that level of awareness by doing some inner work.

Let’s get started!

Excuses

An excuse is an attempt to lessen the blame, defend, or justify a fault or offense.

Ever try to talk to someone about an issue and all they do is list the “reasons why” said thing happened the way it did. One big story time.

When really all you want is for them to just acknowledge their mistake and promise to do and be better.

That being said, we don’t gotta explain why something happened the way it did, because the details make no difference.

Take responsibility quickly and quietly. If you messed up, own it and promise to work hard to improve.

Things don’t have to be in perfect alignment for us to take small steps to be a better person. We can start with where we are today. What can we do right now?

“I start from where the world is, as it is, not as I would like it to be.”

– Saul Alinsky

Ego

An ego is a person’s sense of self-esteem or self-importance.

When we do or don’t do something, it’s easy to let that affect how we feel about ourselves.

Maybe you accomplished something big – does that make you feel better than others?

Maybe you said you’d do something and didn’t – does that make you feel shitty about yourself?

We don’t wanna get too high or too low. Whatever happens, let’s allow it to be a small thing. Good and bad.

“Be satisfied with even the smallest step forward and regard the outcome as a small thing.”

– Marcus Aurelius

Living Well: Embracing Imperfection and Purpose

No matter where we find ourselves, we can live by our principles.

Compassion, reason, fairness, open-mindedness, purpose.

Life doesn’t have to be perfect to live well.

We don’t have to live in the perfect place or have the perfect job to be grounded, centered, living well, and doing good.

“There too one can live well.” -Marcus Aurelius

Embracing Small Opportunities for Big Success

“Apply yourself to thinking through difficulties – hard times can be softened, tight squeezes widened, and heavy loads made lighter for those who can apply the right pressure.” -Seneca

Focus your entire effort on the little bit of room you have, that tiny chance of success.

Like the losing team that comes back to win it all. Or the unprepared student who passes a hard test.

Our best shot is holding onto the small opportunity we have left to succeed and do everything we can to get it done. Don’t give up.

It’s not over until it’s over. If it’s humanly possible, you can do it.

Word of the Year: Unleash the Power of a Single Word to Transform Your Life

Happy first day of the new year!!! As tradition goes, it’s time to choose a word that defines our upcoming year. A word that will help us get 1% better everyday.

Kinda like a mantra, a Word of the Year is simple, has meaning, and when you say it – you feel it.

Words like relentless, focus, intentional, acceptance, clarity, and joy bring power, especially when they’re repeated over and over again (i.e. throughout the year).

When choosing your own word, think about what each word means; behind each word what is the message?

What does it mean to be relentless, to have focus, to be intentional, to accept, to have clarity, to have joy?

What does it feel like?

Do you notice the subtle difference in energy between all of these words?

A simple word can provide us guidance, comfort, motivation, and inspiration in the new year, so choosing one that you vibe with is important.

My word for 2024 is ‘Now’.

Now means that wherever I am, whatever I’m doing, I’m in 100% doing the best I can with what I got.

Now feels easy like peace, clarity, and love; like I’m just going with the flow, focusing on what I can control, and enjoying life as it unfolds in front of me.

Any ideas for your Word of the Year?

Some other fun words are adventure, change, newness, shine, become, connect, freedom, healing, yes, no, serenity, patience, peace.

Happy New Year everyone – major blessings are coming our way ♡
