Impossible List

5k a day for 31 days (and counting!)

Another goal checked off of the Impossible List! Today (7/1/23) marks 68 days in a row of walking / running a daily 5k.

What really inspired my to take up the 5k a day for 31 days challenge was to honor my Poppop who I love and miss beyond words.

Doing something everyday in honor of those who cannot. That thought motivates me and keeps me stepping everyday.

Accepting what is (the pain, the love, all of it) & powering through doing the best I can now.

Never did I think a daily loop around the block would turn into doing a daily mile for over 500 days (and counting), and a daily 5k for 31 days (and counting).

I simply say yes, lace up, and get after my goal day after day, and it’s adding up! One step at a time. One day at a time.

Through this experience, I’ve learned more about…

  • consistency: doing something small everyday no matter what’s going on in life; to be consistent is to carve out time daily to get it done, or to do it daily
  • integrity: making a promise and following through no matter how I’m feeling; to have integrity is doing what I said I’d do – doing my absolute best to follow through on whatever I said yes to

I often sit and ponder about what life is trying to show me and how these lessons can apply to my life situation; how can I use this lesson to move the needle just 1%?

Some life lessons since starting 5k a day:

  • Work on myself more intentionally (goal, strategy, tactics)
  • Make my heart happy: exercise, good diet, water, sleep, deep breaths
  • Practice building confidence and discipline to see my goals through

What’s next? For now, I’m keeping the daily 5k streak going and holding focus on the Impossible List.

My 2023 Misogi is to run 26.2 miles (doubled from last year), so that’s a big goal I’m working toward right now!

Stay tuned as I continue to train for a 12 hour race coming up early October 2023 🙂

To @joediandrea, thank you for inspiring me to chase my dreams and for loving and supporting me the whole way.

To @cam00913, thank you for being so loving and supportive, for trying new things, and for talking to me about your dad, my Poppop.

Check out my ~runs~ highlight on my personal insta for recent runs.

If this blog inspires you, I encourage you to commit to your own fitness challenge.

Maybe it’s a daily loop around the block, daily mile, daily 5k, daily dimes (10 push-ups, 10 pull-ups, and 10 squats) – whatever your creative mind can come up with, the main goal is to do something every single day no matter what. THAT is where the real gains happen.

Fulfilling a small promise to yourself every day helps build the self-reliance, confidence, and discipline required to see goals through to the end.

Set a goal and get after it DAILY. Getting 1% healthier everyday. Love you all. Thanks for reading and for all of the love and support. Keep on stepping lil savages ♡

Update! I ended up clipping out 150+ days of 5k a day. Took me up to the Hainesport 12hr race on October 7th, 2023.

If you’re training for your own race and/or want to work on your mental health, I found so much value in 5k a day – give it a try 🙂

Bike outdoors 100 days in a row

Completed my goal of biking outside 100 days in a row. Another one crossed off the impossible list!

Some days were MUCH easier than others.

During these past 100 days I’ve…

  • Sold our home and bought another one
  • Laid my poppop to rest
  • Listed our new place up on Airbnb
  • Road tripped from Philly to Florida for the summer (with only a duffle bag)

All big things that could easily throw me off if I wasn’t laser focused on completing this goal.

Dealing with Grief

When my pop passed, a fire ignited in me to take care of my heart health. At the time I was working on my 100 day goal already, and wanted to keep it going in honor of him.

On my low days when I didn’t feel like biking, I thought about my pop. “If only he had exercised more and made his health a priority.” I was making myself miserable.

It took some major self-awareness and raw honesty to admit that I was living in the past of wishing and wanting life to be different, to just have my pop back – completely resisting the moment.

It took sooo much energy to consciously redirect my attention. But in doing so, the sadness and anger became my biggest motivation: the fuel to my fire.

When I felt sad or angry, I would force myself to think- “NOW is MY chance to be healthy and take care of myself. This is all Poppop wants, for me to be happy and healthy. This is exactly what the universe is teaching me. Take care of myself, now, not later.”

And out the door I would go. Feeling my pop completely proud of me for doing something that I didn’t want to.

No Rain, No Rainbow

There were days I had to legit drag myself out of bed bc I wasn’t feeling the best and days I forced myself out the door into the freezing pouring rain and cried about it lmao.

There have been highs and lows, but no matter what I got up and got out there day after day.

I face planted my first day out on the bike, had breakdowns before, during, and after rides, found some peace, and learned so much about myself.

AND after all this time, I can now ride a bike without using handlebars (lifelong dream)!

Just celebrating along the way.

Impossible List

Ever hear of an Impossible List?

The Impossible List is an ever-evolving list of experiences that build upon each other and inspire you to take action in life.

It’s different from a bucket list because when you complete an Impossible List goal, you replace it with a new one.

Let’s say you have a goal to run a mile for 7 days…

You complete that goal, and replace it with a goal to run for 31 days in a row, and so on.

To start, choose a few life categories ie. Health, Fitness, Finance, Personal.

Under each category, list one thing that you’d like to do or accomplish one day – go as big as you want.

Now you have an Impossible List!

Take action and refer back to this list on a weekly basis, adjusting it as needed.

Bonus miles: use your Impossible List to create goals for your Life Map.

You can find my Impossible List here – which is, of course, ever-evolving. I just recently (2/4/25) changed the name of this list of life experiences to Life Resume! S/o to Jesse Itzler for the inspo!

I got the idea of creating an Impossible List from Thomas Frank, who got his idea from Joel Runyon, who created the world’s first impossible list and defined the difference between it & a regular bucket list.

If the idea of an Impossible List inspires you, I encourage you to make your own…

It has been super powerful for me and I’m just getting started!
