A League of Their Own

The Women’s Save the Redwoods League was an influential local force in the growing movement to save the redwoods in the early 1900s.

Keep in mind that at the turn of the 20th-century, the culture and norms of the Victorian era still dominated, and there were few ways for women to engage outside the domestic sphere.

So all across the country, women formed clubs to find creative means of civic engagement and community leadership.

Through these clubs, women exerted a discreet and lasting influence on the future of the developing West. Fortunately for the iconic redwood forest, in California, women’s clubs were on the forefront of forest policy reform.

The women were highly respected members of society, and they utilized their prominence to raise support for the cause.

They even employed the methods of environmental activism decades ahead of their time by placing themselves in the path of loggers!

They quite literally used their standing to defend the redwood trees, knowing the loggers — their friends, neighbors and family members — wouldn’t dare to harm them.

The influence of California women, and Humboldt County women in particular, in the early efforts to save the redwoods cannot be overstated.

Before it was a movement, before their communities approved or even understood, these women spoke to the national imperative to save the iconic ancient redwoods.

And they took action, persisting for years in the face of apathy, obstruction, and their own families’ self-interest, and helped to save some of the world’s most special places.

This was such an incredible site to visit and if it wasn’t for the brave and courageous, we all would not have the chance to enjoy these big and warm spirits.

It’s a great lesson on following your heart and doing what’s right with persistence, regardless of what others may think or say!

Success Rhythm

The success rhythm goes as follows and works for every goal in any area of life:

Plan. Do. Review. Repeat.

  1. Plan: Utilize knowledge to make a plan.
  2. Do: Execute on a plan while tracking progress along the way.
  3. Review: Use lessons from your mistakes to improve on a plan.
  4. Repeat: Adjust plans as needed and keep rolling- you’re moving in the right direction!

There is no secret to achieving your goals. Read that again.

You need to put in the work and persist.

Regardless of doubts, fears, unsuccessful plans, external forces…

Those who succeed persevere by learning more and adjusting their plans along the way with a good, positive attitude.

The successful just won’t give up, they refuse to.

They try things differently and take small, daily actions consistently over a long period of time.

Think long-term actions = long-term success.

Simple life lessons from Tony Robbins

Change your story, change your life.

A belief is a feeling of certainty.

Turn your mess into your message.

The past does not equal the future, unless you live there.

With the right story and state of mind, you can make anything work.

Happiness is a decision.

Change your environment, focus, and language.

Your words create your world.

If we’re in our head, we’re dead.

Avoid emotional stacking.

Complexity is the enemy of execution.

Be really clear of what you really want and where you want to be.

Clarity is power. The more clear you are about something the more power you will have.

Where am I really? Rate where you are and where you want to be.

How’re you going to close that gap? Emotional hunger and intensity.

Crush, destroy, and replace any story of limitation: excuses on why you’re not where you want to be.

Suffering is not in the facts, it’s in the perception of the facts.

Your story is creating the pain: what’s bullshit about the story you’re telling yourself?

Stretch philosophy: when you say you can’t, switch to MUST. If you want freedom, you have to stretch yourself further.

Learned helplessness. Let life happen- surrender to it.

Massive action is the cure all.

Give more than you ever expect to receive and you’ll have nothing to worry about.

The discipline of perception

The discipline of perception: the way we see it.

Perception is how our mind sees the world around us – situations, people, our own behavior… in other words, it all comes down to what our interpretation is of a particular thing.

So let’s think about that for a second… is it not true that we can change what goes on in our life by changing our thoughts of it?

For example, I cheated on my diet and ate food after 8pm… one way I could see it is that I am a total failure and will never be able to commit fully to anything… another could be that some slack here and there isn’t a bad thing… and another could be that I am grateful to realize my mistake and will make sure that I am better with my time management tomorrow.

See how drastically different these viewpoints are? How words can really affect how we see the situation? How it could make us feel about ourselves in the short and long term?

There really is no good or bad, because if we can find the strength to train our minds to see the world in a way that actually supports and motivates us, then we can find more happiness and success in whatever, and all that, we do.

A more drastic situation could be dealing with the death of a loved one. We could see it as the end of everything we’ve ever known… or we could see it as an absolute blessing that we were able to meet and enjoy their soul in the physical world and are grateful for the love they showed and continue to show us.

Ever hear the quote- “it is what it is” well I’d like to piggy back off that and say “it just is”. That’s it. We have the power to define what exactly situations mean to us and that dictates the energy we attract and the happiness, or lack of, we feel.

What situation could you look at a little differently that would completely change your energy and quality of life?

I’d like to end with a favorite quote of mine: “Day by day, in every way, I am getting better and better!”

Forgiveness is the path to freedom

Once I forgave myself, everything got easier.

So many times I wish I would of acted differently.

And there’s even more times that I wish I would of stood up for myself, and not let someone treat me a certain way.

For so many years I carried this pain in the depth of my soul.

Once I made the decision to forgive myself, it all seemed to fade away.

I forgave myself for how I treated others and the pain that I’ve caused them.

And I forgave others for how they made me feel.

But most of all I had to really dig deep and forgive myself for letting what others did affect me.

That was hard to swallow. Because it’s so much easier to blame others for my pain.

This journey is NOT easy but when I wake up in the morning, all I can do is try to be better, even if I don’t always make the right decision.

It’s easy to see someone’s pictures and think that they have it all figured out, but what’s inside is a never ending cycle of self discovery – the good, bad, and ugly.

Once I chose to forgive myself, all of this seemed to go away, at least for the time being.

So when I find myself feeling those feelings that we all know too well, I ask my Lord Jesus Christ for forgiveness and to help me carry my burdens through life.

Because I know for sure the decisions I make will follow me throughout my life.

And I so gratefully have Him to walk right along side me, to help with those pains.

I love you all and I am HERE. Talk to me! Together we are stronger ♡

How can we cope positively with our anxiety?

Of course we get a overwhelmed sometimes…

And sometimes we aren’t 100% present…

Off thinking about the past or future.

Belly breaths

Anytime you feel anxiety or frustration coming up…

Use it as a signal that you need to stop and take some deep belly breaths.

4 counts in. Hold.

4 counts out. Hold.

Aim to do at least 5 deep belly breaths.

Repeat these counts until you are feeling better.

Slow down

Take 5-10 minutes to open a window and journal out your emotions…

Or take a walk / spend time in nature to clear your mind.

Move

Whether you are indoors or outdoors…

Putting your arms and legs in positions they aren’t normally in throughout the day will increase your blood flow…

Which in turn increases your energy.

With more energy, you’ll be able to work through emotions more effectively.

Eat healthy foods & hydrate

Work on eating small bits of fruit and vegetables throughout the day to keep your body fueled.

Again, this produces more energy for you.

Of course drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

When we take care of our basic need of clean fuel…

We gain more energy and more opportunity to work on our emotional needs.

Connect with family and friends

Reach out to those around you to see who can hold space for a little while…

Text / call / facetime whatever you need to feel connected.

Pray & meditate

A regular spiritual practice can help to relieve any and all anxiety.

I have first hand experience that prayer power truly does work wonders.

A few minutes a day goes a long way to calming your nerves and worries.

I believe prayer and mediation are an essential part of healing your mind, body & soul.

Self care

What you could use right now?

Maybe a hot shower and face mask…

Or a yoga session and some deep breathing…

Or a sun bath and a nature walk?

Practice taking in consideration your own needs and how you can incorporate more YOU time into your day.

I’m here for anyone needing to work through their thoughts and emotions.

We are in this together.
