Staying productive via bookend routines

Pick 3 things to do right in the morning.

They could be:

Drink water, wash up, stretch, meditate, journal, pray, give thanks, etc.

Test out different combinations to see what gets you going!

As you close your day out, pick 3 things to do right before bed.

They could be:

Wash up, stretch, meditate, visualize, journal, read, give thanks, etc.

Once you find a routine you vibe with,

Focus on getting your bookends done no matter what…

Start and end your day the same way!

You’ll feel in more of a routine, even if the day ahead of you is out of rhythm.

And of course you can spice your routines up as needed by trying something new!

A billionaire’s lesson on change…

Making a change. If we don’t do things differently, there will never be a change.

If nobody taught you how do to it, how would you do it?

Some pro tips I summed up from the awesome Jesse Itzler (www.jesseitzler.com or @jesseitzler on insta) on making positive change:

1) Create your own set of rules- a system that works for you. What we need is a life system. Nowadays, 10 shots of tequila costs me 3 days… definitely not for me. We are all unique in our own ways. If it doesn’t feel right, you gotta trust your instincts and remove it.

2) Day dream often. Become the superhero in your head. Daydreaming will open your mind to the many different things you can learn and do. Think about the person you want to become, the traits you will have, etc. Make these as detailed as possible.

3) Plan backwards. 1. Write down what you want to accomplish in a given period. For example: travel adventures in a 12 month period. 2. Plan it out: when are you going, where, what’s the budget? 3. Go into your calendar and schedule your trips in. Work around them; they are non negotiable events. Start with the end in mind so you are able to make up a plan that will likely bring your goal to fruition.

4) Be opened minded. Be accepting of different things. Learn to listen to people who do it differently without judgement.

5) Live with a little less structure– more willingness to be flexible and do things that come up.

6) Declutter your spaces. Someone needs it more than you do.

7) Whiteboard ideas: writing out pros & cons to come to a resolution. Pull the whiteboard out for your own life- big decisions, ideas- writing things down and getting it out of your head is a great way to create newness.

8) Change up your routine. Make an effort to mix it up every so often- this will train you to think better, to be spontaneous, to be more open to change, and will get you out of your same everyday habits.

9) Remind yourself: what’s the worst thing that can happen?

10) Put something big on your calendar– this forces you to change up your routine and mindset.

Change is human nature. It’s how we grow!

Daily Routines

From the moment you wake up until the moment you go to sleep, you are in a routine.

Morning, afternoon, evening…

We go about our time doing certain things a certain way, not always realizing the long term effect those choices may have.

These routines are habits built from our choices.

A routine could be as simple as coffee first thing in the morning, or going the same route to work.

An easy way to spice up our lives is to switch up our routines.

Sub out coffee for tea twice a week. Take a different road to get to work. Mix things up- keep life interesting and exciting!

Are Your Routines Helping or Hurting You?

Now that you are aware that you have routines, no matter how unseeingly small, there’s no question that some routines serve our best interest while others don’t.

In truth, the little things add up to bigger things- this is called the compound effect.

Overtime, are your actions leading you toward your goals, are they holding you back, are they destroying you?

Switching up your routines is important to stay out of the ruts, however it’s equally important to make sure what those routines consist of are good, positive habits that get you to your goals.

2-Week Time Tracking Exercise

Let’s start by tracking what you do on a daily basis for 2 whole weeks.

Every 30 minutes, write down what you did.

Each week, analyze where your time is spent and where you can improve.

This will start to give you an idea of what may be helping you and what may actually be hurting you.

The Chain Method

Once you’ve completed your 2-week time tracking exercise, gather a list of good habits you’d like to implement down the road.

We recommend making a list greater than 3 of good habits you wantt to work on as you progress.

With this list, choose which habit makes the most sense or is the most relevant to your current life situation.

The key to lasting change is to focus on building one new (realistic) habit at a time.

So choose 1 from your list to start with, keeping it as small and as simple to do as possible.

Maybe you read everyday, but you decide to read up on self development instead of mystery novels.

Maybe you want to stretch more and decide to do a one minute stretch each day for 30 days.

Building Momentum

Start with one day, doing whatever habit you wish to work on.

Mark on your calendar each day you did what you set out to do.

As the days pass, you’ll see you’re actively building a chain- work not to break it, keep the streak going!

Remember: keep it simple, taking it day by day.

Wrap Up

We all have the same amount of time in a day. It’s what we choose to do in this very moment that will determine if we reach our goals or not.

Healthy Habits

Have a stellar morning routine

In short… have a morning routine!

Rise with the sun and start your day off with a solid morning routine.

All you have to do is pick 3 things to do right when you wake up tomorrow morning.

Below are some ideas, however feel free to get as creative as you want.

Wake up early

Our days are limited in time as they are. Stretch your morning by waking up earlier!

Drink water

The first thing you should do in the morning is to drink at least 8 oz of water.

Do a light stretch

By stretching first thing in the morning, you are improving your brain activity, decreasing body aches and pains, and increasing your energy level throughout the day.

Wash up

Brush your teeth, wash your face- it will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to attack the day!

Shower after your morning routine or workout.

Yoga

Bringing your head, arms and legs where they don’t normally spend the rest of the day is a super energetic routine to kick start your day.

You’ll immediately feel fresher, lighter, and definitely more awake!

Give thanks

A great practice in the morning is giving thanks for another day, for those in your life (physically or spiritually), for all that you have, and all that is coming your way.

Your appreciation for life will ripple throughout your day and bring joy to yourself and those around you.

Ask for Blessings

Ask the universe for blessings and be open to receiving all new opportunities that align with your goals.

Ask and you will receive.

Meditate

Sit in silence and focus on eliminating all and any thoughts.

This is a time to empty your mind and get to know your true inner self.

You will awake feeling more aware with more peace of mind.

Drink coffee or tea

Both coffee and tea are high in antioxidants.

Avoid cream and sugar.

Read a book

Reading has a significant number of benefits!

Make it a habit

Small actions lead to BIG results. Keep on stepping!
